Dear NY Constituents,

Here is our Society in 2025!

We are still working together with NESO and NYSDA, to ensure NYSSO is continuing to discuss dental assistant shortages, expanded function assistance, the evolution of DSOs and what that means, pedo-ortho offices in NY and how they are evolving, and reassessing the definition of a handicapping malocclusion. These are pressing issues, to which we hope to have a resolution soon.

We have kept our promise from last year, and we are working hard to represent all aspects of NY orthodontists and especially the youngest members.  To that avail, we have modified and refreshed our logo – to represent the newer segments of our membership.  Let us know what you think! Our Communications team is hard at work on a new website refresh as well! Stay tuned for updates!

Our annual “Rave in the Cave” preparations have begun!!  Get ready NY residents, for fun and fabulousness this October.  Last October, our “Rave” was at The Dean in NYC. We had a blast. What a great way to meet our new generation of colleagues.

Planning for the NYSSO Biennial Meeting in 2026 is underway! We are taking suggestions on topics you would like to learn more about… AI anyone?

We have had a series of very productive meetings this last year.

  • September 2024 at Newport, RI where the NextGen Leadership Summit welcomed and inspired new leadership from NYSSO, NESO and the AAO.
  • November 2024 in Hartford, CT for the NESO Annual Meeting where our board met and made clear decisions on changing the bylaws for our organization. You will be able to review these changes on our website soon.
  • April 2025 in Philadelphia, PA for the AAO Annual Session where we discussed changes in our social media, more new members and the future of orthodontics in NY.

I would also like to thank all the NYSSO board members, for their hard work and dedication. Ken Cooperman, Yanique Le-Cadre, Leon Klempner, Marlin Salmon, Andrew Arcuri, Vic Grazina, Yon Lai, Mike Malsch and Eric Ploumis. A special thank you to Kristin Dunn for her hard work and management.

Enjoy the end of the summer and a wonderful beginning to your fall. Hope to see you all at NESO in Bonita Springs, FL – November 14 and 15, 2025!!

Dr. Joana Forsea
